I used to crave for good sandwiches in Delhi. Subway was the only joint that I knew of. But they did not have many options in their vegetarian section and also lately the quality and freshness was on a downhill trend for them.
There was a need of another establishment who can serve good and tasty sandwiches and with the recent launch of Canadian sandwich maker Mr Sub’s first outlet in SDA market, New Delhi, we can expect the void to fill up. I was happy to visit Mr. Sub and to see the submarine sandwich — a long bread roll similar to a baguette, filled with cheese, sauces, and vegetables. A wide variety of sandwiches are on offer at Mr Sub, and they also offer you hot patty fillings which is otherwise not available with other establishments.
Mr Arnav Saluja, chairman, Beverly Food and Beverages, the master franchisee for Mr Sub in India was himself present at the establishment during the blogger’s meet and he shared his views and ideas on the business. He said that they were planning to establish 200 outlets across India by the end of fiscal year 2020. Starting with Delhi NCR, he aims to establish about 30 outlets by March next year.Taste of freshly baked breads, fresh vegetables, variety and hot fillings are their main USP’s, added Mr Saluja.
When we started our tastings we found that the balance between vegetarian and non-vegetarian options with specific flavours catering to the Indian palate are properly taken care of. The vegetarian and non-vegetarian sections were also placed separately. Fillings like tandoori chicken tikka, tandoori paneer tikka, hot n spicy fillings like spicy sambal veggie balls and curried soya has been developed keeping in mind the Indian taste. International flavours like pizza, Italian flavoured chicken and other assorted fillings have also been included in the menu.
We tried sandwiches with mashed potato and paneer tikka fillings in cheese and jalapeno bread, Mexican patty and sheikh kabab fillings in 5 grain bread, spinach tortilla wrap with tandoori paneer fillings, and spicy paneer roll with cheddar cheese and one sandwich with the hot and spicy paneer fillings. All these sandwiches came with loads of fresh veggies and fruit toppings, and various sause options including one of their Mr. Sub secret formula sauce.
Each one had a distinctive flavour and unique taste of its own. The options available for the non-vegetarian fillings included many combinations of chicken and turkey fillings. We also tried the oatmeal cookie and the double layer chocolate delight pastry from their dessert section.
The servings were quite sumptuous and not too heavy on your wallet with prices ranging from INR 130 (vegetarian) and INR 210 (non-vegetarian). We certainly enjoyed our sandwiches at Mr Sub and so did the crowd of students from adjoining IIT Delhi hostels.
We are sure that this will be a grand successful establishment in the area and many more joints will come up all over Delhi soon.
