For me, monsoons are the best time to slip away for a quick relaxing retreat. The rains give me an excuse not to go out and I manage to enjoy a blissful time at few comfortable hotels. Pune area is one of those favourite destinations of mine where I like to spend monsoon times. The current trip was taken with the intention of literally enjoying luxuries of a star grade hotel, resting and doing NOTHING. This meant no searching for food, or sightseeing or any such plans. I wisely choose an industrial hub and rest in a hotel there. The stay should be little away from the main city and peaceful. For this I was suggested the Courtyard by Marriot Pune Chakan about 40 kms from Pune.
Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan is one of the premier hotel in the area for business and leisure travellers. It recently won the Most Preferred Emerging Hotel in India, awarded at the prestigious National Awards for Excellence in the Hotel Industry in July 2015.
Located in the business district, this family-friendly hotel was an ideal getaway for me. Lonavala and Khandala, great monsoon getaway spots, also were nearby. No noise or interviews, the hotel management was busy with a big client of theirs – it was an ideal situation for me. Thoroughly enjoyed my undisturbed peaceful stay and indulged in activities at the hotel at my own leisure. Swimming in the pool, using the fitness centre and enjoying the delicious food at the Hotel’s trademark restaurant MOMO were the only available options – and I enjoyed them thoroughly for the two nights I stayed here.
The hotel had beautiful rooms and traditional comfortable Marriott feather beds. The luxury room that I was staying at has everything, a comfortable bed, a flat TV with multiple channels, ironing board, bathrobes, slippers and essential toiletries. It was enough to pamper me and make me want to stay longer.
Lounge at the pool was great, it served delicious drinks, and the pool area was just perfect for a few laps and paddling. The hotel was busy because of an important event, but during the daytime all the guests had gone out for the event so it was slightly quieter. Most of the time it was like having the entire hotel for me. I was told that there are not many guests during the weekend here because the business visitors go away and also that people have yet to discover this hotel as a weekend getaway.
The hotel is affordable with basic tariff plans plus weekend packages and is very well priced in comparison to others. However it is their special weekend packages that are even more attractive. For the monsoon season they have special rates which make it more convenient for the guests to choose.
The hotel is an ideal place for big corporates to hold their meetings and events. It’s the most convenient hotel option for the nearby factories and manufacturing plants. Business-related amenities at this 4-star hotel include 24-hour business center and meeting rooms. Event facilities include a conference center and conference space, indoor and outdoor meeting room space, and the pool deck. Additional business spaces within the hotel include a car deck for automobile launch presentations. Sophisticated and versatile, the indoor event spaces can accommodate up to 500 guests.
But unlike any main city, Chakan doesn’t have many places to explore or visit. There are a few hidden gems and the hotel is happy to arrange trips. One interesting visit was to Japalouppe Equestrian Center. It’s a lovely drive through lush and green. The collection of horse at the farm was great but I couldn’t take a ride because of the rains.
The food at the MOMO (Modern Dining, Modern Living) cafe at Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan is full of surprises. Most of the dinners they do is a buffet spread and while I was there they were running the Mexican Food festival. Its easier in a buffet to try out a lot of dishes, and their dessert spread was huge with more than twenty delicacies including Indian desserts and also international ones.
Their section on the local Marathi food was awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed the sumptuous food for the two lunches I had there. For breakfast too, the buffet spread is huge and awesome with fresh fruit juice bars, assorted cereals and bread spread, and others.
Besides this the MOMO2 is perfect for guests on the go. If you are heading out to explore Pune, or for a meeting and you want food on the go, you can have packed pastries, sandwiches, and salads at this café.
I also thought that this hotel could be an ideal spot for destination weddings. It’s away from the madness of the city, you get a lot of privacy and they have some beautiful rooms to hold the big functions.
I spent two nights here and despite being almost in the middle of nowhere I did not want to leave., and promised the staff to come back again….
