It was a great moment for me too when I visited the indoor stadium at Delhi University campus. I could see big groups of excited children accompanied by their parents and instructors rushing in to the venue for the contest. Children from all over India, from far off rural areas and also International students attended the event. The competition saw the participation of 11000 Children from 57 Countries with 25000 parents. India was represented by approximately 5500 students from 22 states.
A set of about 100-200 arithmetic questions involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division were put up for the children in the preliminary rounds and they were given only 8 minutes to solve them. Some groups were seen using Abacus and some using just their brains to solve. IT was a theater like scenario as the children were seen using their hand-movements and also shaking their heads to calculate and frame their answers. Elimination styled rounds were also conducted where in every wrong answer meant exit. This theme also saw more than a few hundred children participating.
