Asus ZenFone 3 Max

When mobile phones were introduced, they were meant only for communications for people on the move. And the mobile phones did pave the way for many more innovations coming into communication industry. People started looking for options to keep connected through social media, various Apps, mails, etc. while on move. And now to use the phone as a Camera is the latest trend.

But for professionals like me phone cameras were not upto the levels which could take excellent printable clicks. But over the last few months – changes in the specifications of the cameras in SmartPhones have enabled enthusiasts to shoot some great high quality images.

Now these phones are being classified as Camera Phones and these camera phones are now getting better with every new model coming in the market. These phones are the only reason for the extinction of Point and shoot cameras. But the problem with most of the common camera phones in the market today is the battery life. With so many applications the phone is subjected today, the usage time for the camera gets very limited.  So what was required was a camera phone with advanced features and a long battery life.

I recently happened to use one such great device of ASUS. I am talking about Asus ZenFone 3 Max, and this is one of the greatest Camera Phone I have used in recent times. The Asus Zenfone 3 Max (ZC553KL) has a super long battery life with its 4100 mAh Li-Ion battery.

As far as the device is concerned, Asus Zenfone 3 Max is a decently designed with great features and the performance is also wow. The design is good and the phone feels well built. The full HD display quality is one of the best in the industry today.

The ZenFone 3 Max has a slim design and an Aluminium unibody construction. The rounded edge glass fused into the body of the phone gives it a premium, glossy look. The 5.5 inches screen is good enough and the best part is the rich n vibrant colors. The phone can take two SIM cards, but the second SIM slot accepts either a nano SIM card or a microSD Memory Card.

The finger print scanner is pretty easy to configure and is quite responsive n accurate. I happened to use the phone for about a month and clicked a good amount of p[pictures on this along with my DSLR. And I was amazed to find quite similar results on both of my devices.

Now about the Camera features:

Being a photographer, its always a challenge to use a new photography device. I normally use a DSLR for all my photography needs, but at times it becomes quite a load. So I was looking for a good camera device for a long time and I guess my search is now over for the time being. The Asus Zenfone 3 Max has a 16 MP, 1/3 inch sensor, large f/2.0 lens, phase detection with laser autofocus, and dual-LED (dual tone) flash.

The camera features on Asus ZenFone 3 Max which are really great:

  • Manual controls to change the shutter speed, ISO, and white balance, Manual focusing, and Manual exposure value (EV) control.
  • Smartphones have fixed aperture lenses. But Asus ZenFone 3 Max lets you have control over exposure parameters just like a DSLR does.

There are loads of auto settings too. The auto mode works similar to that of a DSLR and you can override some of the settings, like locking auto focus, auto white balance and auto exposure with a long press on the screen.

It offers Time lapse and panorama shooting options, HDR Pro mode, Low light and night mode, Beautification and other effects, Super high resolution mode (64 MP), Selfie mode, etc. The front 8-megapiexel camera captures some pretty detailed selfies.

Videos look really good thanks to the vibrant display, and the phone handles high-bitrates videos nicely at up to 1080p. Audio performance is particularly good through wired and wireless headphones. The volume can get really loud and audio has good separation with punchy bass.

The battery life on this phone is so good that you can use it to charge other devices. This is the most advanced feature of this phone. The Mobile Manager app is one of the more useful ones, letting one manage notifications, clean up unused files and manage permissions for apps all in one phone.

Well, this phone is a great device for you, if you are a traveler or someone who is away from a charging port for long hours. This phone is highly dependable, the battery lasts a good 2 days with a single charge. Also if you are a photographer who uses manual controls in a camera, then this is just the phone for you. Most of the photos I have taken, such as the ones with long exposure, have been shot with manual controls. For those who don’t want to use these manual controls, the camera can be used in auto mode. The phone features industry leading Backlight (Super HDR), Super Resolution and Low Light modes.  In conclusion, the Asus Zenfone 3 Max is a power packed device that offers everything you would expect from a phone. The finger print scanner is well implemented and highly usable. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 Octa-core 64-bit processor handles pretty much anything that you throw at it.
